stoney82 Great to hear early workings from Port Erin. Strong foundation that suggests the direction they wanted to take. They have evolved into a quality gig staple. Favorite track: Untitled / The Jam.

about

Port Erin formed on the evening of 5th January 2007 after our first rehearsal / jam session. After declaring our allegiance to each other we set to work and began rehearsing three times a week in an uncompleted extension lean-to at my rented house in Beanacre, Wiltshire, UK. Less than a month later (3rd February 2007) we recorded The Weight Of This E.P. at Catseye Studios, near Lambourn, Berkshire with recording engineer/mixer Andy Rowland who we had met whilst touring the year before.

All drums, bass, guitar were recorded live, in the same room, with vocal overdubs added after at Andy's house –– we managed to record the whole EP over two days. We released the E.P. with a capacity home-village (!) show at The Fox in Broughton Gifford, Wiltshire on Friday 30th March 2007 at what was only our 12th live outing as a band.

An initial 300 'black label' CD copies were pressed and with a further 300 'white label' CD copies pressed in July 2007 as a limited edition featuring the text 'To The Island And Back Tour 2007' to commemorate our first pilgrimage to our namesake, Port Erin in the Isle of Man. We don't have a copy of this version ourselves, so if you have one, please get in touch as we want to get our hands on an image for the archive!.

Untitled / The Jam was the first piece of music we wrote together –– a live favourite of ours that we would go on to open shows with for three years after... playing with it's form at each show. It brings back some great memories listening for this first time in a while. I remember this take being the one that wasn't the perfect take but collectively chosen for it's good energy and feel.

This early recording captures us taking our first naive steps into the world of being a band... we were hungry to gig (we played 84 shows in 2007) and knew that we needed recordings to get the shows in –– here lies the very beginning, we hope you enjoy.
